Here's a quick screen capture I've taken from the movie. Don't get your hopes up too high, however, as this short consists of a very minamalist plot and my brother Hayden as the primary (and only) actor.

Dolly setup

Here's a quick pic from the shoot today. It's a fairly simple dolly but worked pretty well, I just got some starting footage for the short. The story at the moment is being made up as I shoot...

Alas, more setbacks

Things really aren't going well at the moment for this project - First things first, the weather has been dismal, and although we haven't been covered in as much snow as Dunedin or Queenstown, we've made up with it from all the rain and hail happening here over the last few days. And it doesn't look as though it's going to let up either which is unfortunate.



Also the last piece of the costume I was waiting for won't even be couriered to me until Wednesday, which is when I have to return the dolly. So I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to be doing... I can do some shots of the movie as long as the weather clears up a bit, seeing as I have the rest of the gear out until next Monday.

Shall have to see how things go.

Movie Update

Alas, no actors seemed to be available for my allocated time frame for shooting the movie, so I'm going to resort to Plan B. I still have a couple of weeks sometime in August, so hopefully I can use that time to do my planned longer movie.

As for Plan B, I'm going to use some of the locations from my scouting for the other movie, and have a very minamalist story/plot. It's going to be a 7-10 minute short movie involving a lot of technical stuff, including using a dolly for most the shots and using a seperate recording system for all the foley, voice over etc.

I will also be using one of the characters I made for the other movie, seeing as I have an almost complete costume put together already for him... Just waiting on recieving the final item. I already have all the gear out, so shooting will begin as soon as the weather clears. I'll make sure to put up some production photos once I get started to give people a better idea of how everything's going.

Shooting Locations

Just made up a couple of Google Maps, with markers for the locations I will be shooting at. As you can see a couple of the locations will take a little bit of travel time to get to. At least there will be variety of exteriors with this shoot. The first map is an overview of the area, and the second map zooms in a bit further to the Otatara/Sandy Point areas.

The Elusive Actors

Filming for the project is slated in for 23 June - 1 July, which covers two weekends and the weekdays inbetween. Now all that is needed is some actors! I've sent an email out so will hopefully hear back soon, actors being a rather vital element to the whole process. Good thing I only need two.

Location Scouting

I went out location scouting a couple of days ago in search of some suitable places for the short "Place in the Woods". I found some good places, but the only problem is that the locations are quite far apart from each other in terms of traveling time. I've matched the locations to the scenes in the script, and so far have around five separate exterior locations. They are:

Otatara
Sandy Point Pine Forest
Kilmock Bush (Second Concession Bush)
Daffodil Bay (First Concession Bush)
Omaui Scenic Reserve

First Post

Here stands my very first post. In this blog I will include items from my day to day life, which at the moment will primarily consist of inside information of the production of my movie short 'Place in the Woods', which is currently in the preproduction stage. Also I would like to post pieces of interest, and anything else that pops up.
